Mangalgiri weaving is a popular handcrafted fabric from Mangalgiri, a town in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Mangalgiri fabric involves an intricate process of weaving on pit looms from combed yarn by warp and woof interlacing. It incudes a variety of processes like purificaton of cotton, dyeing, removal of excess dye and drying. The most characteristic features of Mangalgiri are that either it is plain or it has a zari on the border and no woven designs on the body. | |
